British Sign Language sessions
People who use British Sign Language (BSL) as their first or preferred language can now access support from Healthier You to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes with a BSL programme starting in April.
Sessions will commence in April, with space for 14 participants to access Healthier You support via Zoom with a qualified BSL Interpreter present.
The programme will only be available to those participants who require BSL. We will be working with Zebra Access who have supported us in making refinements to the programme to ensure its accessible to the participants.
Eligibility for the Healthier You BSL programme
If you, or someone you know, identifies as either deaf or hard of hearing and your first / preferred language is British Sign Language, you can choose to take part in the BSL sessions, sign up to be part of remote sessions on other dates with a representative or carer present, or access information and support via the Healthier You digital platform.
You can register for the programme online after taking the risk score assessment.
Once you have applied for Healthier You, you can tell our team about the preferred communication method you would like us to use to contact you to check final details of eligibility and to ensure you are registered for the BSL programme starting in April. Communication methods can include via email, caption telephone, SMS text messages or via a carer or representative on the telephone.
What Healthier You BSL sessions can do for you
The Healthier You BSL programme will support participants in understanding their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and how weight management, physical activity, healthy eating and redesigning daily activities can reduce the risk and help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
